WHO - Guidelines for Safe Recreational Water Environments (Volumes I and II) [2006]

Description:

The guidelines provide a review and assessment of the health hazards associated with the recreational use of water. Volume I concerns coastal and freshwater environments with chapter 10 providing information on chemical contaminants. Volume II concerns swimming pools and similar environments with chapter 4 providing information on chemical hazards.

Why this Tool/Guidance?

Information provided forms an authoritative basis for the setting of national regulations and standards for water safety in support of public health. Volume I provides a framework for local decision making and can be used as a checklist for industries assessing potential health impacts of development projects in recreational water environments. Volume II provides a framework for local decision makers regarding swimming pools and similar environments and may also be used as a source of reference material for industries and operators preparing to develop swimming facilities.
