WHO - Developing drinking-water quality regulations and standards [2018]

Description:

The document provides simple, practical guidance to assist the development or revision of customized drinking-water quality regulations and standards using the WHO Guidelines for drinking-water quality (GDWQ). The guidance should always be read and used in conjunction with the GDWQ. The topics covered include (i) when to revise existing regulations and standards; (ii) key principles (iii) getting started; (iv) selecting parameters and parameter limits; and (v) compliance monitoring requirements. Case studies are provided from countries with differing resources. Particular emphasis is given to countries with limited resources.

Information provided is intended to support agencies responsible for the setting of national regulations and standards for drinking-water in support of public health. It is particularly intended to support policy-makers in countries with limited resources.
