Occupational safety and health (OSH) management and risk assessment

To effectively control OSH risks and prevent occupational accidents and diseases due to hazardous chemical exposures, employers should establish a sound OSH management system as an integral part of their overall business management. OSH management systems are a logical and useful tool for the continual improvement of OSH performance within an organization. They include a set of actions and processes that establish, monitor and evaluate the organization’s efforts to keep workers safe and healthy, and comply with national laws. Key elements for their successful application include ensuring both management’s commitment and the active participation of workers in their joint implementation. In addition, an OSH management system is only effective when it is accompanied by a positive OSH culture in the workplace.

  • Carry out risk assessments
  • Apply the Hierarchy of Controls
