The Helsinki Criteria are recommended for use in programs and practices for the detection, diagnosis and attribution of asbestos-related diseases. This report summarizes information on the diagnosis and screening of asbestos-related diseases and suggests methods for managing and eliminating those diseases. Information includes (i) screening for lung cancer; (ii) follow up of asbestos exposed workers; (iii) diagnosis of non-malignant asbestos diseases; (iv) new asbestos-related diseases; and (v) pathology and biomarkers.
