Establish a system for data collection in the workplace

Effective prevention of occupational accidents and diseases can be achieved by designing and implementing evidence-based polices and strategies, based on data and information on occupational accidents and diseases, commuting accidents and dangerous occurrences. Governments should establish a mechanism for the collection and analysis of data from employers on occupational injuries and diseases related to chemical exposures. This system should be periodically reviewed.

Governments may prescribe:

  • The hazardous chemicals in respect of which exposure of workers should be monitored and recorded.
  • Periods for keeping records undertaken by employers of monitoring the working environment and of exposure of workers.
  • Periods for keeping records of the results of medical surveillance of workers.
