WHO - Chemical releases caused by natural hazard events and disasters [2018]

Description:

The document gives brief information about chemical releases resulting from natural hazard events. Information is provided on (i) technological accidents triggered by natural hazards, with examples of previous events; (ii) role of the health sector in risk management, with examples of vulnerable sites for chemical release; and (iii) role of the health sector in preparedness, response and recovery. Hazard-specific annexes provide information on the mechanisms of chemical release resulting from earthquakes, floods and cyclones and the subsequent health impacts, as well as key information on response activities.

Why this Tool/Guidance?

The guidance document assists countries with developing emergency preparedness planning in the event of a chemical release. It is especially useful for planners in the health sector and public health authorities.
