Description:
The International Code of Conduct on Pesticide Management is a framework on pesticide management for all public and private entities engaged in, or associated with, production, regulation and management of pesticides. The Code serves as a point of reference in relation to sound pesticide life cycle management practices, in particular for government authorities and the pesticide industry. The voluntary Code includes frameworks on (i) pesticide management; (ii) testing of pesticides; (iii) reducing health and environmental risks; (iv) regulatory and technical requirements; (v) availability and use; (vi) distribution and trade; (vii) information exchange; (viii) labelling, packaging, storage and disposal; and (ix) advertising.
Why this Tool/Guidance?
Information provided is useful to support environmental health decision making and the setting up of a pesticide management system within the framework of the International Code of Conduct on Pesticide management. It complements legally binding instruments such as the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade, the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal.
