UNIDO - Toolkit for investigating and managing POPs-contaminated sites [2010]
Description:
The toolkit is designed to enable decision-makers and officials responsible for contaminated site management to increase their understanding and their use of risk-based approaches for management of POPs and other chemicals. It aims to prioritize POPs interventions in order to reduce local health impacts, particularly on the poor and vulnerable populations. The toolkit focuses on the 12 initial POPs listed in the Stockholm Convention and includes modules on (i) policy and legal issues; (ii) site investigation; (iii) risk assessment; (iv) management of contaminated sites; and (v) costings and financial implications.
Why this Tool/Guidance?
Information provided is useful to support environmental health decision making regarding exposure to dioxins or dioxin-like substances. The toolkit will allow identification of POPs-contaminated sites and the ability to monitor them.
