WHO - Protecting surface water for health [2016]

Description:

The document provides a structured approach to identifying, assessing and managing risks related to surface water, as a basis for providing safe drinking-water. Practical guidance is provided on (i) analysing hazards to surface-water quality and pollution sources; (ii) assessing the risks hazards may cause for a specific water supply; (iii) setting priorities in addressing the identified risks; and (iv) developing management strategies for the control of the risks. The use of water safety plans is promoted.

Information provides guidance to decision-makers and public health officials in the development and application of water safety plans where source-water protection is a key element in the provision of safe drinking-water.
